In India, cars manufactured from April 2023 (BS6 Phase 2) are built to be E20 material-compliant — so every model currently sold new is E20-ready.
How to tell if your car is compatible
- From April 2023: E20 material-compliant. Safe to use E20.
- April 2020 – March 2023: generally built for E10 — verify first.
- Before April 2020: not E20-rated; prefer E10 or regular petrol.
- Honda cars: material-compatible since 2009 per Honda.

Current models from Maruti Suzuki (Swift, Baleno, Brezza, Fronx), Hyundai (Creta, Venue, Exter), Tata (Nexon, Punch, Altroz), Mahindra (Scorpio-N, XUV700, Thar), Toyota, Kia, Honda, Volkswagen, Skoda and MG are built to the current E20 standard. Diesel and electric variants are unaffected by ethanol blending.
